Wanderburg Demo Walkthrough

What the public demo actually lets you play.

Demo Walkthrough

The Wanderburg demo is the real on-ramp. It appeared as a surprise during Steam Next Fest in February 2026 after a closed playtest that Randwerk said drew about 126,000 players. Later studio posts claimed more than 200,000 people tried the demo and that it ranked among the most played Next Fest demos. Treat those as studio-reported numbers, then go play the thing yourself. This walkthrough is about what the build contains, not a spoiler script for every random map.

Early Access is still scheduled for 8 September 2026. The demo is not that build. It is a grasslands slice with one player vehicle in most public footage, a shop of captains and modules, and enough bosses to teach you fear.

What you can do in the demo

You pick a loadout: vehicle (usually the starting wheeled keep), captain, crew, a starting module, and sometimes an artifact. Then you drop into a procedural green map full of flocks, fields, rolling cottages, bicycle knights, and rival forts. Consume, draft upgrades, try not to be eaten, extract gold even if you die.

Public videos are consistent on the region limit: grasslands only. Commentators say other biomes and extra player vehicles are reserved for the paid Early Access set. If a UI tile is grey, it is probably a billboard for September, not a bug. Cross-check biomes and Early Access before you assume the desert is hiding behind a secret rock.

A clean demo route

Run one: Norbert or another plain captain, archers or side cannons, no experimental artifact. Learn turning and eating. Bank gold. Buy nothing until you have a plan.

Run two: spend on a module you felt missing. Fire mage if you want area denial. Ram if you like melee. Mines if you are always being chased. Read modules so you do not stack three back-mounted tools and wonder why the mouth does nothing.

Run three: pick a captain with a sentence you can repeat. Vampire sustain, Dieter the Drunk’s messy melee bonus, Racer Ruth, The Count’s consume-heal, a gold printer. Captains lists the names that actually show up in videos. If a name is not on that list, we did not invent it.

Somewhere in those three runs a boss will appear. Do not make the demo a boss checklist. Make it a shop checklist. The how to beat bosses page exists for the day you are large enough to care.

Dieter and other demo updates

After Next Fest, the team pushed extra demo content. HandOfBlood’s channel noted a weekend drop that added Dieter the Drunk as a playable captain. That is a useful reminder: the demo is not frozen in amber. Recheck the Steam demo news if a captain tile suddenly exists on your client.

Studio posts also mentioned a raffle around the demo window (play three captains, join Discord). Those events expire. Do not arrive in September asking this wiki for a dead key giveaway. Use official links for live Discord news.

How far is “beating” the demo?

There is no credits roll. A successful demo session is: you understand consume versus flee, you have unlocked at least one captain and one extra module, you have seen a boss without instantly exploding, and you can explain your four slots. If you can do that, you are ready for how to grow your castle and the module tier list.

If you cannot, stay here. Replay the grasslands. The map is random but the lessons are not. Sheep still pay. Bigger forts still eat. Gold still survives.

Demo versus Early Access shopping list

Buy the full game later if you like the driving joke and you want more biomes, more vehicles, and a longer unlock tree. Wishlist and wait if you only wanted a 20-minute curiosity. The system requirements page is the same Steam block either way. The news timeline on this wiki stays honest: we have not pretended to score a 1.0 that does not exist.

For a visual of a full demo length run, the video in the middle of this page is a no-commentary Next Fest capture. Pair it with the getting started text if you want the same moments explained in sentences.

When the demo feels small, that is the point. It is a slice. Take the gold habits, the ram timing, and the coward’s retreat into Early Access with you.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Wanderburg questions.

Is the Wanderburg demo still on Steam?

It launched during Steam Next Fest in February 2026. Check the current Steam demo listing; this wiki will not claim a takedown we have not seen.

Does demo progress carry into Early Access?

Randwerk has not published a hard guarantee on this page's research pass. Assume unlocks might reset and keep your knowledge, not your save.

How long is a demo run?

Public captures cluster around 15–40 minutes depending on greed. Length is not a quest log. Leave when you are rich or dead.

Can I play the desert in the demo?

Footage and interviews describe grasslands as the demo region. Desert content is covered on biomes as an Early Access peek.
