A short history of a keep that learned to roll.

News and Trailers

Wanderburg showed up as a joke that people took seriously. This page is the public timeline so trailer thumbnails and demo HUDs stop arguing with each other. It is not a recap of every Discord emoji. For dates that affect your wallet, Early Access wins. For the playable slice, demo notes wins.

2025: the reveal

Randwerk announced Wanderburg during the 2025 PC Gaming Show. The hook was immediate: a castle on wheels that eats the countryside, Mortal Engines plus Howl’s Moving Castle, knights on bikes, steam siege engines. A later Games Forged in Germany / GameTrailers cut of the reveal picked up a large view count. Press quotes on the Steam page run from Eurogamer, GamesRadar+, and GameStar — colour, not a Metacritic.

Wishlist numbers became the subplot. Coverage in late 2025 talked about six-figure wishlists driven by the trailers rather than paid acquisition. Treat published wishlist figures as snapshots. They move.

The reveal trailer in the middle of this page is the PC Gaming Show cut. The official Randwerk upload is the one on the homepage.

Early 2026: playtest and Next Fest

A closed playtest drew a studio-stated 126,000 participants. In February 2026 the public demo landed in Steam Next Fest. Linux coverage noted Proton 10 running it. German streams turned the demo into a week-long ram festival. Dieter the Drunk arrived in a later demo drop.

If you only watch trailers, you will think every keep has spider legs. If you only play the demo, you will think the world is only grass. Both are incomplete. Biomes holds the distinction.

Mid 2026: Gamescom and desert

Randwerk took Wanderburg to Gamescom. Coverage described a “Most Entertaining” award/nomination moment around that show. In July an official desert overview trailer (IGN / Secret Sauce Showcase) showed walking forts, hammer towers, giant cannons, and the Rusty Knight. Studio Steam posts also pointed at a desert biome sneak peek during a German showcase.

On 26 August 2026 the Steam community feed carried the line that Early Access enters on 8 September 2026. That is the date this wiki uses everywhere else. A Future Games Show cut from Gamescom week (“Release Date Reveal Trailer”) repeats the same window; it lives on the roadmap page so this timeline does not grow a second embed.

An April 2026 Sidekick press note cited over 400,000 wishlists and 300,000-plus demo players, plus Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean localisation for the EA client. Those are studio snapshots. They belong next to the questionnaire’s six-to-twelve-month EA window, not in a fake 1.0 countdown.

How to use this timeline as a player

Do not wait for a cinematic to teach you boost. Play the demo. Read getting started. Use trailers to know what the shop might become, not what your current four buttons are.

When a new trailer names a captain or a biome, it should land on captains or biomes after we can describe it in a sentence. A name without a sentence is just marketing.

This is an unofficial wiki. For primary sources use Steam news, wanderburg.com, and the Discord listed on official links.

If you only have time for three clicks: the Steam news feed, the Early Access date, and one demo walkthrough hour. Wishlist graphs and award blurbs are colour. They do not bind boost. They do not tell you whether ram still deletes a vacuum castle. Play, then read, then argue on Discord. That order keeps this timeline from turning into a shrine. When a new trailer names a module we have not listed, add it to modules only after a sentence exists, not after a rumour title.
