The public slice that taught everyone the joke.
Wanderburg’s demo is the reason this wiki can talk about rams and vacuum mouths instead of only trailers. It arrived as a surprise during Steam Next Fest (23 February 2026 week) after a closed playtest Randwerk said drew about 126,000 players. Later studio posts talked about more than 200,000 demo players and a high Next Fest ranking. Those are studio-reported stats. They are useful context. They are not a review.

What shipped in the public slice
Grasslands biome. A starting wheeled keep. A shop of captains, modules, crew, and artifacts. Procedural maps. Boss-scale rival forts. Keyboard, mouse, and controller. Steam Deck-class hopes and Linux reports via Proton. Single-player only.
What did not ship in that slice, according to interviews and later trailers: the full biome set, the full vehicle garage, desert walking forts as a selectable floor. If your client differs, believe the client and send us a screenshot through the usual internet shouting channels.
Dieter and live demo patches
After the first Next Fest weekend, creators flagged a demo update that added Dieter the Drunk. That matters for anyone writing a captain list from day-one footage only. The demo is a living client. Update it. Then read captains.
A raffle around the demo window asked players to try three captains and join Discord. Those promotions expire. They are not a permanent gold faucet.
Why the demo still matters after 8 September 2026
Even when Early Access is the thing you pay for, the demo remains the onboarding argument. If a friend asks whether the driving joke is real, you hand them the demo, not a 4K trailer. The getting started guide is written against this build’s habits: eat small, flee large, bank gold.
If demo saves do not migrate, you still migrate. The ram timing is in your hands.
Known limitations worth repeating
Single-player only. No invented mobile port. No gift codes. Performance targets are “potato” friendly in marketing, while the published Steam minimum still lists a GTX 1660 Ti class GPU. Reconcile that tension on system requirements instead of assuming an office laptop will match a trailer.

When the demo disappears or is replaced, this article should say so. Until then, it is the best Wanderburg you can run without waiting for September.

If a streamer still has an older demo build without Dieter, that is a patch gap, not a secret unlock you missed on a wiki table.
