Progression Guide

Wanderburg has two currencies and one clock. Gold buys between runs. Silver buys permanent upgrades. Overtime is the timer that decides whether you are leaving with a shopping bag or a body bag. This page explains all three.

For the first-run briefing start at getting started. For build progression see how to grow your castle. For boss strategies see how to beat bosses.

Gold and Silver — The Two Currencies

Gold is the between-run shop currency. You earn it by consuming structures, defeating enemies, and completing runs. Gold buys captains, modules, crew, and artifacts. Gold does not persist between runs in your wallet — it populates the shop. If you die with 500 gold unspent, that gold is gone. The shop resets each run.

Silver is the permanent upgrade currency. You earn Silver by completing runs and through Overtime bonuses. Silver purchases persist across all runs. These are the upgrades that make every future run easier: extra module slots, faster crew, larger starting gold, improved consumption yields.

The distinction matters. Gold is session spending. Silver is permanent investment. Do not confuse the two at the shop.

How Overtime Works

Overtime is Wanderburg’s survival clock. Each stage has a timer. When the timer expires, Overtime begins. During Overtime, the map changes: enemies spawn faster, the food chain accelerates, and survival becomes significantly harder. The goal is to collect as many resources as possible before Overtime, then extract.

Overtime mechanics from video evidence:

Every stage has a boss gate that opens at a set time. If you defeat the boss before Overtime ends, you exit the stage with your loot. If Overtime expires before the boss, you fight the boss in Overtime conditions — faster enemies, more chaos, higher risk.

Dark Forest Stage 1: Boss at 180 seconds, Overtime at 420 seconds.

Dark Forest Stage 2: Boss at 240 seconds, Overtime at 420 seconds.

Stage tiers affect both timers. Later stages compress the window between boss gate and Overtime.

Overtime strategy: The goal is not to survive Overtime. The goal is to never enter Overtime. Take the boss gate, collect the loot, extract. If you are still fighting when Overtime starts, evaluate your health and the boss HP. Sometimes leaving without the boss is correct. See how to beat bosses for when fleeing is the right call.

Biome Boss Gates

Each biome has four stage tiers with increasing difficulty. Defeating the boss at each tier unlocks progression to the next tier within that biome.

Grasslands stages follow the standard progression: Stage 1 introduces basics, Stage 2 adds medium enemies, Stage 3 introduces elite units, Stage 4 is the hardest with Tier 3 bosses.

Desert stages feature leg-based enemies. Walking forts, hammer towers, and the Rusty Knight appear in Desert Stage 1 and above. Desert enemies use different locomotion patterns than wheeled grassland units. See biomes for the full breakdown.

Dark Forest stages feature shadowy environments and different enemy compositions. Dark Forest Stage 1 has a boss at 180 seconds with Overtime at 420 seconds. The spawn pool differs from grassland equivalents.

Boss gates are optional in the sense that you can leave a stage without clearing them. But leaving without the boss means leaving without the boss loot. Every boss kill is a permanent Silver-gain opportunity.

Silver Upgrades — What to Buy First

Silver upgrades are permanent. They apply to every future run. The efficient purchase order matters because Silver is finite.

Priority upgrades from community evidence:

Starting gold increase: More gold at the start of each run means faster shop access. Early runs benefit most from this because you learn the loop faster with more options.

Consumption yield: Modules or crew that increase resources from consumed structures. This amplifies every run thereafter. High priority for farmers.

Crew speed upgrades: Faster crew response time affects repair crews, gold crews, and combat crews. The time saved compounds across dozens of runs.

Module slot expansions: If the game offers extra starting module slots for Silver, these are high-value because they multiply your options every single run.

Check the Silver shop in your client for the exact upgrade names and costs. This page names categories, not leaked spreadsheets.

Module Unlocks Between Runs

Between runs, the shop offers new modules for purchase. These are not the same as Silver upgrades. These are one-time purchases that add a module type to your permanent roster. Once unlocked, you can draft that module in any future run.

What to unlock first:

Archers are the default. If you are unsure, start with what you understand — typically the auto-fire basics. Unlock flashy modules only when you have a build sentence that needs them. See modules for the full roster.

The demo walkthrough on this wiki suggests an unlock order: learn the basics, unlock what your build needs, do not collect a museum. Module unlocks are permanent. There is no penalty for waiting.

Farming Routes for Silver

Silver comes from completing runs and from Overtime bonuses. The fastest Silver farming is consistent boss kills across multiple runs.

Efficient farming strategy:

Select a biome and stage tier you can clear reliably. Speed matters more than depth. A five-minute clear of Stage 2 with boss kill beats a twenty-minute struggle through Stage 4 that ends in death.

Each successful boss kill yields Silver. The exact amount varies by stage tier and Overtime status. Consistent runs compound Silver faster than rare deep runs.

Watch Overtime carefully. If the timer is approaching and the boss is still healthy, extract with what you have. Dead runs yield zero Silver. Living runs with a boss kill yield Silver plus whatever you collected.

Stage Composition and Difficulty Scaling

Stage difficulty scales through enemy count, enemy type, and boss tier. Understanding the composition helps you pick the right stage for your current power level.

Grassland 1 has health pickups and basic enemies. Good for learning.

Grassland 3 and Dark Forest 2/3 use fewer enemies but stronger variants. The trade-off is less chaos but higher individual threat.

Dark Tower Diff 1 is approximately 10,000 HP for the boss. This appears to be a special stage or high-difficulty variant for endgame players.

Stage composition affects more than difficulty. Some achievements and unlocks require specific stage contexts. See the achievement guide for details.

The Meta Loop

Wanderburg’s progression is a loop, not a ladder:

  1. Run a stage, collect gold and Silver, defeat the boss.
  2. Spend gold on captains, modules, crew, and artifacts.
  3. Spend Silver on permanent upgrades.
  4. Return to step 1 with more options and more power.

The loop accelerates as your permanent upgrades stack. Early runs feel slow. Later runs with full Silver upgrades feel snappy and powerful. This is intentional. The demo walkthrough on this wiki is designed for the early loop. Apply its lessons as your upgrades compound.

The video in the middle of this page is a progression-focused run that demonstrates Overtime timing and Silver collection. Watch how the player handles the timer and extracts after the boss gate opens.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Wanderburg questions.

What is the difference between Gold and Silver in Wanderburg?

Gold is session currency for the between-run shop (captains, modules, crew, artifacts). Silver is permanent currency for upgrades that persist across all runs. Do not confuse them at the shop.

What happens when Overtime starts?

Overtime increases enemy spawn rate and map chaos. The goal is to defeat the boss before Overtime or extract early. Fighting in Overtime is high-risk. Most players take the boss gate and leave.

How do I earn Silver faster?

Consistent boss kills across multiple runs. Speed matters more than depth. Fast clears of Stage 2 with boss kill compound Silver faster than slow struggles through Stage 4.

Should I spend Silver on upgrades or save it?

Starting gold increase and consumption yield are high-priority first purchases. These amplify every future run. Save for the upgrades that compound, not the ones that feel good once.

What is Dark Tower Diff 1?

Dark Tower appears to be a special high-difficulty stage. The boss has approximately 10,000 HP. This is endgame content for players with full upgrades and optimised builds.
